 So why do people snore anyway? I wasn't the only one in a pillow fight in the middle of the night because of irate wives. They say that the noise comes from a disrupted flow or current of air from your nose that passes through the throat and into the lungs. It may be a blocked nose or your tongue may be at an awkward position that it prompts breathing difficulty. But most of the time, the culprit has to be the soft tissue in the throat or the upper palate that starts vibrating, hence, the ugly sound of snoring.

I first thought that snoring is just an ugly sleep sound you make, so I said what's the big deal? If I can put up with her nauseating cooking, why can't my wife tolerate the disturbing sounds I make? Lots of people snore, but the world revolves still. At least my wife was calm when she explained that although it ticks her off, snoring could also be related to Obstructive Sleep Apnea. It is a disorder that causes blood pressure to rise while flow of oxygen to the brain dwindles low. In fact, it may pull your life to death. She feared that I may not be able to breathe at all knowing that there's a disrupted effort somewhere. The next day, we went to the doctor to ask about my snoring habits and its risk. Next time, you should check on a remedy to save your wife from nagging and to save your health from slowly drifting apart especially when asleep.

A nagging wife, an imperious boss, and a brat. I'm sure in no time your blood pressure will jump to break off the scale. Hypertension or high blood pressure is an insidious thief that steals your health at night. They call it the "silent killer" for it cripples your heart without a warning or early symptoms. Serious health risks are attributed to having a high blood pressure. Oftentimes, it may trigger the cause of heart attacks, impaired vision, kidney failure, and damaged blood vessels. So before you stiff to death, the only way to reduce the hazards of hypertension is to monitor your blood pressure. There are two variables of measurement. One is the systolic or the pressure exerted by the artery walls in pumping out blood, and second is the diastolic or the ebb of blood back to the heart. Knowing the details, you'll know if you're on a high or low of your health condition.

 You may not be aware of it but the food you eat may have a lot to do with the soar of your blood pressure. What are the guidelines to the right diet? Remember that high calorie intake goes down to your body weight, so the heavier you are the bigger tendency for you to be predisposed to heart and other system ailments. To treat hypertension, you need a lot of potassium in your diet. Avoid salty delights that are rich in sodium. It adds risk, the same with a low calcium diet. I've been through a phase when I tried smoking from cigarettes to pot. It's the so-called teenage angst that drives the youth into utter madness. You feel like everything's against you. You despise your parents and you find comfort from peers who dare you to do things just for the heck of being crazy. Yup, daddy's been there, done that. So more or less, I thought I'd know how to handle my teenage daughter.
If I was crazy in the 80's, my daughter's psychologically out of this world. I understand the dares and challenges that sometimes put you into jail, but my daughter's drama? She needs to be confined in an asylum. Please, I'm a loving and doting father! That's the reason I'm overreacting.
I visited a web forum once about teenage angst. It's all crappy until I heard of BDD, the Body Dysmorphic Disorder. At last something sheds light to my daughter's trashy psyche. For a time, she's been worried more of her weight than her homework. She'll shrug off a flunked test but she'll go wild when she sees her actual weight in pounds. Physically, my daughter's flawless but mentally, I think she's driven by a spooky spell.
BDD is also known as "imagined ugliness". That will figure why she's acting nuts all the time. It's okay for her to be vain so long as it doesn't affect her health. If it's part of a teenage drama or angst, I could take it. But I think it's getting worse, so I asked a psychiatrist to check on her. Teens are normally delusional, but not all things should be sensational. BDD may be a health risk.

So what is the price of a fast-paced trendy world? Only more drama and trauma! It comes for the prize of fitting in with the mindless herd. They say that we're opening up to global diversity, but I only see that we're still moving in that paradigm tilt (more like shit!).
Teenage girls and even boys are predisposed to the idea of beauty that is to be thin and slim, hulk and buff. The culprit? The media and the fashion industry. They dictate what's in and what's not. Hence, stealing our sense of identity and personality. Although staying slim may have its healthy benefits, there are adverse effects too. It imposes so much pressure to waning self-esteems of its victims, pushing them to believe that by eating less, they'll be just as perky and pretty as those supermodels or hunks.
If you'll take a journey through their minds, you'll be surprised to find out that they live in delusions. Even when they're fit and thin, they see themselves as fat and hideous. That's not their bodies talking but their mind who's dictating. They also seem to develop weird eating habits for only they would know why.
When a family member is suffering from an eating disorder, give them more support and courage to fight away their whimsical beliefs. Do not pressure them, instead, praise them and see the better qualities in them. Expect the worst, as they'll go through the stage of denial and resistance or even see signs of anger. But don't give up, and deal with it as early as possible through a counselor or doctor, before poison creeps up to their well- being.

 I love my dad and he's always been around for any major and minor outbreaks in my life. But lately, this seemingly warm relationship is fast teetering on a rift. I don't understand why but he always seems cranky, moody, and most of the time, oblivious. I first thought that he was going through a rough stage of midlife crisis so I let him be. However, I noticed that's been gaining weight, mostly moping and wallowing on his four-cornered office walls. So I immediately set up an appointment with the doctor, thinking that he might be schizophrenic or something.
Well, my old man hadn't gone nuts yet! I was quite relieved to learn that it's only menopause and we don't need to confine him in an asylum. My dad's in denial of course, but I'm not surprised. Who would think that there's such thing as a male menopause?
At 52, his testosterone production is taking a plunge. Most of you could only imagine a weaker sex drive, but it also causes lower blood supply to the brain, hence, slower metabolism. But don't worry if you're a middle-aged man! Aside from sheer vanity, a healthy diet can do you good. Be more sensible in eating and in choosing what you eat. Better yet, renew your lifestyle. Just last month, we signed my dad to an exercise program and he's been developing muscles out of a sagging fat. And I also found a new way to bond with my dad. We would normally do groceries together or play golf on a weekend. Menopause is not a senile disease, but a wake-up call to keep up with the times and build up on your healthy rituals for the mind and body.

We always associate joy to pregnancy and bliss to childbirth, but babies does not come from mythical storks. They are labors of their mother's love and of risk and danger in the whole nine months of excruciating discomfort. If first in mind is the safety of a booming life within, what about the hazards of the host herself?
Post-natal depression is a debated psychological phenomena among mothers. Whether there's an actual case or not, it is only common that while the body undergo changes, the mind may take journey into uncharted irrational boundaries. I do not believe it at first, but my mom told me how she used to hate me before. Well, I'm a pretty lovable baby and there are pictures to prove that I'm more like my mom's replica. So how could she hate me? Well she doesn't know for sure, but whenever she sees me, she panics and she cries. Initially, my dad dismissed it as an absurd joke from my mom who's gone too emotional and way over herself. But after a month of refusing to carry me in her arms, my dad took her to a psychiatrist.
The doctor diagnosed her of having post-natal depression. The doctor said that it may have something to do with her trauma when my grandmother died. She feared that she can not be as good as her mom and she may not be able to take care of the child without her guidance. That's why she was always in despair and almost seemed to be moody at all times.
Well if there's one thing I can tolerate about women's psyche, this is one. I've seen how my wife delivered my son and believe me, if you'll be the one on the delivery table, you might as well confine yourself in an asylum! The best thing to do after their sorrow-laden feat is to at least address their needs and sensitivities. For once, let's give the credit to women for their courage. If my dad weren't there for my mom, I'm not sure if I'll ever get to know such a wonderful lady like her.

Pregnancy is the time when women blossom with the latest miracle inside their bodies. But even with this residing bliss, some women can't help but to feel insecure. They wreathe in new shape and form, often very hideous. They experience emotional and physical changes that not all pregnant women are ready to handle. So don't be bothered if you're wife is somehow acting kind of nutty and crazy, it's just the pregnancy talking.
It is never an excuse for pregnant women to be a fashion victim or to even look like Godzilla. With their condition, all the more that they should take care of themselves with joy and proper care. However, there are some myths and no-no's during the delicate period for it may affect the child.
Is it okay for pregnant women to dye their hair? My sister's been pushing through with this question for days as she's been itching to go to the salon for a quick hair fix. What am I to do but to consult some pages on line and I got the answer for this confusion.
I found out that it's okay for pregnant woman to dye her hair, but the effect may not be the same. Before going to the salon, I asked my sister to give it a second thought. Although the procedure is confirmed to be safe, there are still components that seep through the scalp and into the body. It may not have any major effects, but I told her that she must think of the baby's development on her womb.
But with my sister looking like Roseanne, I could understand why she held out to her whim. Please don't think that I'm very obnoxious. I do care and I'm actually very protective of her, so I bought her a package with less chemical content and some gloves. I even asked her to have it done first thing in the morning when there's lesser risk of exposure. While she got the body of Queen Latifah, at least by dying she can have the hair of Keira Knightley.

It is a very potent male substance to create miracle and joy-- to create life. Although men take much of the pleasure than the pain, they are still a significant half in reproduction and procreation. To most, it defines manhood and their virile existence.
Even if they are usually stored trapped in plastics (condom), staying sticky and warm just to avoid the clinch off the hitch, male fertility remains an important issue in the reproductive society. Low sperm count tops the list as primary cause of infertility.
Do you know that riding bicycles can make your sperm count dwindle? The basking pressure from your seat can affect nerves and blood vessels that boost out erection. Your balls are also predisposed to shocks and vibrations, therefore to injuries, on a bumpy mountain ride.

 One of the common exercise equipment that we are using is the treadmill. This is a piece of indoor sporting equipment used to allow for running without moving any distance. There are benefits associated with treadmilling. One is you remain on your location for the duration of run. Also, you can determine your step count, heart rate, and amount of calories burnt because there are treadmill with special features that monitor these things. With treadmill, you can still run even if the weather is bad. Running or walking here is also can be an effective workout compared to other complex cardiovascular exercises. Another advantage of treadmill is that you can calculate the speed that will suit you.
However, there are also some disadvantages associated with this equipment. There are treadmills with loud motors that are irritating to the ears. You may find it boring compared to the usual jogging outside. There is also a possibility for an accident to happen. Once the person is not familiar with the equipment, he might get injured. There you have the negative and positive sides of exercising using treadmill. Well, it really depends on the person whether he/she prefers using treadmill. I love yogurt! My day is not complete without it. Before I go to work, I make sure I eat yogurt. Yoghurt or yogurt is actually a dairy product produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. Yogurt is known as joghurt in German. Any type of milk can be used in yogurt making, however nowadays, yogurt production is dominated by cow's milk. Based on studies, it is the fermentation of milk sugar into lactic acid that gives yogurt its gel-like texture and characteristic tang. This is often marketed in a fruit, vanilla, or chocolate flavor, but can also be unflavoured. Yoghurt is also rich in protein as well as several B vitamins and essential minerals and it is as low or high in fat as the milk it is made from.
There are different kinds of yogurt. Among these are Dahi yoghurt, Labneh or Labaneh, Bulgarian yoghurt, Yoghurt Drinks, Kefir, and home-made yogurts. Dahi yogurt which originates from the Indian subcontinent, is known for its characteristics and consistency. Curd is the English term for yogurt in India. However, yogurt can also be made at home. When I was young, I told myself already that I would never survive in Italy because I don not eat pasta. Pasta, which is mostly correlated with this country, is not my favorite food. I prefer eating vegetables and meat compared to spaghetti and macaroni and other types of pasta. What I did not know during that time are the benefits that pasta can offer. Originally, pasta was regarded as fattening and contained very little nutrients. But nowadays, the experts realize its value in our diet. They are good sources of fibers and carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are sources of vitamins, minerals and energy that our body needs everyday. These carbohydrates are usually in the form of easily digestible starches.
Accordingly, the nutritional value of pasta varies depending on the ingredients used in making the dough. Whether it is dry, fresh or homemade, adding ingredients, such as oil, eggs, and flavoring agents or using several kinds of flours will have an effect on its nutritional value. The length of time that pasta is cooked can also affect its nutritional value. For instance, the pasta is cooked for too long, it will start to lose more of its vitamin B into the boiling water. I am a person who consider the creation of breakfast cereal very useful. Everyday, I wake up very early in the morning to attend to my jobs and other responsibilities. However, I only have limited time to prepare a good breakfast. That is why I am so thankful to my breakfast cereal which can be made in less than ten minutes. Although, nothing can surpass eating a breakfast with rice, still, having a cereal for my breakfast is fine for me. I am very much contented with it. Imagine myself, going to work with an empty stomach, I doubt I can survive it.

 According to an article that I have read, we can classify problems in two categories, those problems that we cannot control and problems that come as a consequence of something that we have done. An example of the first category is having a cancer. The first way of solving or coping up with a problem is recognizing that the problem exists. For instance, you have a problem with drugs, you will not be able to solve that problem unless you consider it as a problem. And nothing will happen to you if you do not want to recognize it. How can you solve if if you haven't done the first step yet? To recognize a problem, you have to understand it and list down the options that you need to solve it. One best thing that you can do is to look for someone that you can talk to. That someone can be one of your parent, an adult that you can trust, your teacher, your best friend, a minister or priest.
Solving a problem is never easy especially for a teenager who thinks and acts differently. But once the problem has been recognized and that person's mind is open to solutions, any problem can be solved easily. As what the famous shoe commercial says, "Impossible is Nothing."

When I was a kid, my Mom always get mad at me when I only eat the egg white because I like its taste especially when it is hot. I always separate the yellow from the white and put it aside my plate. During that time, I was not aware of its importance and benefits to me. I just always hear from my mother that I am taking away the most important part of the egg. Later, I found out it is true.
Egg yolks are rich in cholesterol and just like other cholesterol-rich foods, they are sources of many important nutrients that we need. These large number of nutrients in an egg yolk can function well as compared to what multi-vitamins can do to a person. Egg yolk has the most of nutrients in the egg. There has been an experiment done to compare the nutrient content of an egg yolk to an egg white. Accordingly, egg white should not be eaten raw. It contains anti-nutrients. For example, Avidin is a glycoprotein in egg whites that binds to the B vitamin biotin. This can lead to a deficiency of the said vitamin. Egg whites also contain trypsin inhibitors, which could possibly inhibit proper digestion of protein, and growth.

 I do buy lots of canned stuff and take-outs, but I also like buying fresh food. I'm a believer of the saying that fresh food always taste better whether prepared simply or as a special gourmet dish. However, I always worry about the safety of handling chicken because of the salmonella and bird flu scare, so I strictly follow several guidelines in handling poultry.
First, when I buy them in meat shops, I always request that my poultry be separated from the pork and the beef. Then when I get home, I take the chicken meat from the paper and seal it in freezer-burn proof bags or container. I then keep the chicken and other poultry in a different freezer although separate freezer level would also do. As a reminder in chicken preparation, keep separate utensils like cutting boards, knives, and stuff. If you can afford it, it is also worth to invest in a new cookware set specifically for your chicken. When I cook, I handle chicken only once and wash my hands thoroughly after. Even if you want to have minimal dish washing load, I advise you never to put any cooked food in the container you used to keep raw food. If possible, keep separate containers for raw and cooked food. It's no use buying fresh food if you contaminate them in the cooking process.

I was walking around the grocery one day when I saw this gorgeous woman pushing her cart. Man, she was pretty with clear, beautiful skin. Then I dropped my gaze to her waist, which at the moment, was non-existent. She had a bulging stomach, and only did I realize that she was wearing maternity clothes. I walked up to her and commented that she should really get some milk for her and her baby. The look on her face told me that she thought I was immoral or something. Warning bells rang inside my head and I took a look at her cart. Soy milk, nuts, whole wheat bread, tofu, meat substitutes, and most especially, vegetables and fruits! I apologized and asked her if she's a vegan and if she plans to raise her baby a vegan. She shook my meat-and-dairy world when she said yes, and that there's nothing to it, really, because it's easy. Interested, I chatted with her some more.
She told me that nuts, soy milk, soy cheese, and the leafy greens provide her with adequate contents of iron, folic acid, and protein which are the essential nutrients for healthy pregnancy. She also has lots of fiber from the fruits. She doesn't tire of the vegan diet because of variety of delicious vegan recipes available. Also, she feels healthier now, and feels less discomfort than when she had her first baby as a meat-eater. She told me that vegan pregnancy is healthy and less taxing. I want to believe her, I really do; maybe in the future, my wife and I can try vegan pregnancy. But right now, I'm up for a burger.

My father suffers from arthritis and I'm usually the one stuck to soothing his aching joints. Not that I resent this because I do love him. But I have other things to do than massage his joints which at times, take as much as an hour or two. Because of this, I researched for a diet that could possibly relieve or even prevent attacks of arthritic pains. I expected bland food that my father would curse me to the heavens if I tried feeding those to him. How wrong I was, because not only did I find an interesting and delicious mix of food but it also includes his favorite food: fish. Because unknown to many, the fatty acids in essential fish oils prevent arthritic pain.
Not only that, arthritic persons are actually allowed to drink wine because grapes are rich in a substance that relieves pain caused by arthritis. If taken with fish and vegetables, it also has preventive power against arthritis. Who would have thought that broccoli and asparagus can help arthritic people? Dark salad greens are also advised. Green teas are recommended but the wine works just fine for my father. We spend more time together and I enjoy every minute of it. Don't ask why, let's just say that he makes a mean seasoned salmon steak, spicy green salad, and always has a ready bottle of premium-grade Italian red wine. This sure beats listening to him groan while I try to be a good masseuse.

 I love sweets. Chocolates are what I usually crave for. I love the way it melts inside my mouth, and of course, its rich and sugary sweet taste to die for. But then, my grandmother usually scolds me that I should refrain from eating sugar-filled food since it's bad for my health.
