With the flu season close at hand, it's a good idea to get you a flu shot and vaccinate yourself from this disease. But what if you're pregnant? Can you or should you get a flu shot, and could it risk harming you and your child?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), while saying that there exists no conclusive evidence that vaccine shorts are harmful to both mother and child recommends vaccine shots only on three conditions:
- If the vaccine is deemed not harmful to the expectant mother and child
- The threat of exposure for both mother and child is high
- The resulting exposure and infection from the disease is dangerous to both mother and child.
It's recommended that you keep yourself up to date with your vaccinations even before you get pregnant, and follow your doctor's advice regarding vaccinations.
