
The legal age for a person in America to be able to start drinking alcoholic beverages is 21 years old. The age of an American citizen needed so he can be drafted into the army is 18.
This has been the focus of one of the many political jokes Chris Rock has given in his different acts. He said in a comedic manner that when you're eighteen, you are allowed to hold guns and join the army but you can't drink any alcohol. When all of your teenaged friends die in war, and you've just lost your foot, you go to the bar and ask for a beer because you are too depressed, they won't give you one because you don't have a drinking license.
Come to think of it, this spiel is very funny because it is ironic. Who decides the legal age when a person can either shoot a gun or shoot a tequila?
Doctors say that alcohol may cause several medical and physical implications to teenagers that is why it is recommended that they only drink when they're 21 years old. Alcohol may stunt the growth of a teenager. It can also lead to
other vices, such as cigarettes and illegal drugs, which may cause more diseases and addiction. Alcohol will also kill
brain cells that are important in a kid's performance in school. Again, alcohol can be a source of a
weakened immune system, thus making teenagers who drink, more susceptible to diseases. These are a few of the reasons why teenagers must not drink alcohol until they are at the mature age of 21.
To straighten out this political irony, it is suggested that the draft age for our children should be raised to 21 years old. It is sillier to lower the legal drinking age. It's hard to conceive that we can send off our teenagers to war but won't consider them to be mature enough to drink.
